Special Sessions
CBMI 2009 Special Sessions aim to cover case-studies and technical and scientific advances. All papers at CBMI 2009 including papers solicited for special sessions will undergo the same rigorous reviewing process by anonymous and independent reviewers. Special Session papers will be published together with regular papers in the workshop's proceedings.
The scope of this special session is to cover all aspects that relate to the indexing and retrieval of images and video content dealing with scalability issue (especially in the context of JPEG2000 and MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 coding).

Identifying people in audiovisual recordings may rely on both audio and video information. But sometimes, due to some editing effects or to the way the content has been shot, voices are not corresponding to faces. Therefore, building a voice and a face model of a character in an automatic way is not always obvious.
This special session will aim at gathering works focusing on recent advances and new paradigms in fusion or integration techniques of these both modalities in order to identify or to track the presence of a person in audiovisual contents. Beside the obvious applications in surveillance, this tracking can be also interesting for home movies/videos management.

The session comprises a set of contributions that cover the different aspects of content-based search applications. The presentations will discuss approaches adopted within the most advanced European research projects in the field. The addressed topics will span from techniques for automatic annotation of multimedia contents, to frameworks for annotation composition and fusion, to design approaches for content-based indexing.
