Research Interests
Image and ideo processing, analysis, coding, storage, retrieval, multimedia systems, computer graphics and virtual reality, artificial intelligence, neural networks, human computer interaction, medical imaging.

Educational and Research Activities
Fifteen graduate students have completed their Doctorate under his supervision. Fourteen more are currently performing their Ph.D. More than 240 published papers, 80 of which in international journals. Most of them can be found here. The last few years he and his team have been leading or participating in forty five projects, both European and National.

Other Related Activities
Reviewer of more than 20 International Journals. Reviewer of the Greek Secretariat of Research and Technology since 1989. Reviewer of the European Commission since 1996, in the Telematics, Esprit and IST Programme. Invited expert in the Vision2012 Workshop of the EU in the field of Knowledge Technologies and Interfaces in June 23-24, 2002. Member of the Executive Committee of the European Neural Network Society and of the European Neural Network Council, 1991 - 1992. Member of the Executive Committee of the EU Network of Excellence NEURONET (1994 - 2000) of the ESPRIT Programme, as a Managing Node for Greece. Member of the Ιnternational Advisory or Technical Committee in 40 International Conferences in Image Analysis, in Neural Networks and in Human Computer Interaction. Organised the VLBV01 International Workshop on Multimedia Analysis in October 2001 in Athens. Presented more than 40 Invited Papers in International Conferences.
