Introductions

I was born in Athens in July 1981. In 2003 I received my Certificate in Computer Science from the Department of Computer Science and Telecommunication, National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. Then, at the same year I joined the Image, Video and Multimedia Laboratory (IVML), of the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering , National and Technical University of Athens to study towards obtaining a PhD degree, which I successfully defended in February 2008. Then, I worked for 1 year in the IVML which I left in May 2009.

My research interests include Knowledge Representation and Reasoning both under perfect and imperfect (specifically fuzzy) knowledge. In particular I work in the area of Semantic Web, ontologies and Description Logics where I have developed a number of tableaux reasoning algorithms for reasoning in fuzzy Description Logics, fuzzy-OWL, or reasoning over lightweight/tractable fuzzy ontology languages, like fuzzy-DL-Lite and fuzzy-EL+. Some parts of these algorithms have been implemented in the FiRE fuzzy reasoner or in the ONTOSEARCH2 system. I have also worked in the area of Ontology Alignment where I have developed a new String Matching method, called Iterative-SubString (I-Sub), which has been integrated in several popular Ontology Alignment and Schema Matching Systems.

I also participated in a number of standardisation efforts. More precisely I worked in a number of W3C standardisation activities, like the OWL 2. Working Group, the Uncertainty Reasoning for the WWW (URW3) Incubator Group, which was solely devoted in investigating uncertainty representation and reasoning for the Semantic Web and the Rule Interchange Format (RIF) WG. Moreover I also work in the Fuzzy RuleML Technical Group where we aim at extending RuleML with uncertainty and fuzziness and in the RIF.
